Rhine Legions. Anonymous, circa May/June-December 68. Denarius (Silver, 18 mm, 3.58 g, 12 h), uncertain mint in Gaul or in the Rhine Valley. 'SIGNA P R Group'. SALVS GENERIS HVMANI Victory standing left on globe, holding wreath in her right hand and palm frond in her left. Rev. [SIGNA / P] - R Aquila to right before lighted altar; signum on either side. BMC -. CG 81.2 (this coin). Cohen 409. Martin 63 and pl. 5, 63 B = Nicolas 100 and pl. IX; 100 B (same obverse die). RIC 70b. Extremely rare, one of just three known examples and the only one in private hands. Struck slightly off center and with a few scratches, otherwise, very fine.

This extremely rare coin provides a valuable link between the SALVS GENERIS HVMANI obverse, which is normally combined with the S P Q R reverse (see lots 1078-1115 above), and the 'SIGNA P R Group' (lots 1120-1134), respectively.
